A high stall converter allows you to bring your rpms up before launch so you can get your best ET.
There are quite a few things to consider when going with a higher stall. For a street strip car, mostly street I would not go to high with the stall. Maybe 2800-3000 max. A higher stall creates more heat and slip when street driving. A tranny cooler is required. The cam used will also be a factor. The wilder the cam the more stall you will need as low speed torque will suffer with a long duration cam but high speed power will benefit.
600 out of a 454-468 is possible with good heads, roller cam and rockers, high compression, 11-1 +, good high rise single plane intake and a 1050-1150 carb.
My last 632 made 606 at the rear wheels with a high stall converter and a big dana 60 rear. Both the high stall and dana rear take quite a bit of power to run. That was with standard port location heads and a single King Demon 1250 carb.
That motor was moving so much air that it looked like a hurricane was blowing inside the dyno room.

I agree with Dave632. When you have to make 600 RWHP it takes alot. The cam choice is a relly big question as to what you need to get your car to ET. Big blocks don't like High RPM unless they are modified correctly.
Dave used 6 stages of Nitrous. He is the guy I would listen to. He ran a '92 Berreta (I think) in the PRO-MOD series. Grin  Cool

I would not fool with nitrous unless you know what you are doing.
Bob is exaggerating the nitrous stages on the Beretta. It was only 3, 2 foggers and 2 plates one under each of the 1150s.
The 632 in the 68 was running without nitrous when it hit those numbers, that equalled a time of 9.17 @144 in the 1/4 and 5.81 @ 120 in the 1/8th. With nitrous it was over 800 RWHP blowing thru the converter.
Blowing thru the converter is another problem that you can run into but that takes a lot of power to do.

You can bet on that Dave632. Laughing Gas isn't funny when it goes to a place it shouldn't go. That's why you need someone that has years of experience with the gas...

Noel, I was stopped for racing more than once.
They were not as bad as they are now for street racing. Now a days you think you murdered some one if you street race thanks to our stupid news media. In fact I think murderers get off easier.
You just got a speeding ticket back then. I lost my license one time for 60 days.
The race was a joke anyway. I ran a 57 T bird with my 55 Chevy. He was a friend and we just did it for the fun of it. I won by many car lenghts, even starting in 2nd gear.
