I'm thinking about swapping my inline 6 and 3 on the tree with a LT1 and 4L60E out of a '94 Caprice. Anybody have any advice on what i'll have to do to get it to fit or any helpful info on it, any mods, or just anything you would like to share that could be useful???

The LT1 should bolt up to the present transmission/ bellhousing, a pilot bearing would be needed in the back of the crank, as I believe they used the same pattern for the six and eight back then. The trans should hold up unless you are planning on power shifting and/or going with some slicks. This should at least get you running. If you eliminate the injection and go with a carb, that would also simplify the install as you would not have to set up the FI or use a computer. The LT1 is a drop in as far as engine bay size goes you will simply have to get headers for a standard SB which came in that body originally. I think the stock engine mounts could be used.

Hi there,
If you can fit a set of Block Huggers they are enough
to get a good result from that engine.Good luck with
 the project.

if at all possible, i'd want the whole donor car.   you may find that you need other odds and ends to complete the project.    when your done, part it out or junk it, you'll make a few bucks back.    some things you might need would be the wiring harness for the motor and tranny, driveshaft, computer, fuel lines, gas tank, etc?  could really save alot of money and trips to the store?

The LT1 will make a major difference in performance over the old six. To avoid all the problems I would go with a carb and intake for the LT 1. Otherwise you are going to have to add a computer to the setup. The 4L60 trans is also computer controlled so that will be another stumbling block.

You'd have to get a stand-alone trans computer for it. TCI or B&M could help you out in that department.

I really do appreciate all of the advice. I just turned 21 and the car was left to my when my grandfather passed away and i hate watching that car rot away, well actually if any of you have any restore tips that would be helpful, but it does still have a pretty solid body.

K.I.S.S.  not a thing wrong with using the Powerglide, or just find an earlier O.D tranny. the rear gear is a bit high for O.D. so a 350/400 tranny would be a good choice.

I thought about going with a 350 tranny, but i want to make it a daily driver so i want to find a way to give it some power and decent mpg.

A properly set up 350 will do it all.
