Transmission for a '73?

I'm planning a rebuild for a 1973 C10, and I'm wondering what tranny I should install, or if I should even bother. It has a 350 small block in it that I plan on turning into a 383 stroker, aluminum heads, edelbrock carb, whole nine yards. I'm already getting pretty close to two thirds of my budget, and cost is definitely a factor, but not huge. I'm wanting speed out of this truck more than towing power (I've got a '03 Z71 for that). It has the stock three speed manual in it (I'm not sure if there was more than one), and I'm not sure that will be able to handle power like I want it to. So any suggestions? I'd like a five speed, but that's just the comfort preference, so I'm open.

What are your plans for the truck? Street/strip or daily driver?

Daily driver, but street also. I'm not currently planning on taking it to the strips, but might if I think it'd do well once it's all said and done.

Ever think about a 700R4? Having an overdrive for freeway cruising will make things a lot nicer, plus, 1st and 2nd gears are low and get you moving pretty quickly.
