Greetings!
Very nice forum and I'm glad I found it! I'm currently building (with help) a BBC. The guy that's helping me is a great engine builder. We're at odds on what HP we'll reach when finished. I'm shooting for 600HP but after his research he thinks we'll be shy by quiet a ways. With that said please tell me what HP you think this build will make. I'm going to put it on a dyno and will post the results. Your thoughts and input is also welcome! Thanks!

I would think you would be able to get into the 600 range with that setup. The porters ability might get you more or less depending on their ability. Those heads with a solid roller and a bigger cam can push 650 easily. With a set of 2 4s on a tunnel ram 700 is possible. I ran a car with one that hit over 120 in the 1/8th with a motor like that. The 468 has been a popular engine in the drag racing scene for many years because of very good performance and reliability.

+1 Dave.
You will need more induction. 1.The Hydraulic Roller set-up is much to heavy for a BBC to spin high enough to make that kind of HP.
2.You really need a solid Roller Cam and lifters, and rocker arms. Something to free up some HP.
3.You also need some compression

Dave you and the Detective are Both right, I don't think the 990's need to much help, more on the exhaust than intake side and done wrong you could screw up a set of heads so you should consider Aluminum heads that are already bigger.willie you Do need more Compression and a lighter Valve Train but really it will be close to what you are looking for, with a cam in the mid .600's and Hi 12to 1 you could be solid 600hp and more(better) induction you can get hi 600hp but calling your 454 a HO isn't nice, she's a Rat

sorry to hear that skyeking. I think this big block will be more in the 550 range with that setup. But making 600hp with a hyd roller bbc is not hard these days.I will be doing it soon but i do have a 1/4 in more stroke than you.but with hyd rollers its all about the lifters. You dont want the $300-400 ones like lunati has with the voodoo line or the endure x those gm lifters i dont think perform well on cams over 230ish dur.. You want to go with the $600+ ones from morel or crane. With these you can run more spring pressure than with a typical hyd lifter(225seat/500open)and that will help control the weight of the valvetrain and they will run up to 6700rpm reliable and have seen them go 7000rpm.For 600 hp i think your gonna want to get that valve lift up to about .600-.625ish

So should I go with a 1.8 to 1 Rocker for more lift?

I want 600 reliable hp in a 454SS truck that will be on street/strip. What about going to solid roller lifters with my parts in my orginal post? The Cam is a Comp 01-427-08. What would you do with Cam, Rockers, Lifters, Springs knowing that I want 600hp.
