8.5:1 cr? why so low? are you going to add some boost?...turbo(s)...blower

4.30 rear gear? what size tire? what transmission?

what duration is the cam @ .050"?

IMO, from the information posted, you need more compression to make those heads, that cam, and those gears work well together.

If you can keep the tires hooked I would say you're looking at somewhere in the 12s maybe 13s depending on how your car is set up lol.

ghazzi, Is the ElCamino a '59 or an '87 or somewhere in between? Tens is a lot to expect from a 355 in a two ton vehicle.

Scott, that 8.5 might be ring gear diameter.

I see that now but this morning, after being up that late, it was right after pistons and I interpreted it as compression ratio.

sounds like its really gonna be happy with high RPMs?     10s seem like a lofty goal for just getting it put together.     what kinda tires?

Tens is way low.
Maybe with nitrous, a 250 shot or so, and it would need some good hook too.
On motor only my est would be in the 13s if all goes well.
In my many years of drag racing few realize how tough it is to get some of the ETs seen at the track.
I remember how long it took me to get into the high 6s in the 1/8th, which = high 10s in the 1/4, way back when, and this was with a BB in a 3000 lb Nova.

+1 Dave:
Just watching a drag race and both cars are going 10's noone thinks about whatit took to get them in the 10's.

For Example: I had a '68 Camaro I called my fun car. That car was Gutted, it weighted 3250 with me and 5 gallons of gas.

1.Was an original 375/396. I Punched it to .030 to a 402. It had all the good internal parts. I changed the pistons to get a corrected 12:8:1 compression. Thats what it came too.

1a. The heads still had the small valves. The heads were not touched except it was treated to a real racing  valve job....

2.Balanced and Blue Printed, New Lunati Pistons

3.Crane Cam that had the 435/427 specs. .580/.600 lift.Don't remember Duration numbers.

4.Old style Edelbrock Intake with a 750 Holley.

5.TH400 Trans with a 4500 convertor, and a trans brake.

6.5:13 Posi Dana Rear with Moser Axles

7.14" Firestones, with 4PSI.

I ran 11:18 & 11:20's @ 118 to 122 MPH depending on the day and the track
So as you can see to get your Small Block into the 10's it will take a lot of work. Do what Dave632 suggested a 250 shot of juice. Just get someone that knows what their doing.....

As you can see by Bob's post 10s is a tough act to achieve but not impossible.
I had a lot of nitrous experience in my racing days and I could help with a lot of suggestions. It would take a book sized post to include everything but I could work on specifics.
Near the end of my racing days I was running mid 4s in the 1/8th. So all the experience I gained was working. I could NOT hook up all the power I could make.
