If you have a bore of 4.0 inches, then the radius is half of the diameter,or one half of 4, which is 2. With a given stroke of 3.75 inches, we can calculate the volume of this cylinder as 3.1417 X 2 X 2 X 3.75 = 47.1255 cubic inches. So now we have one cylinder at 47.1255 times 8 cylinders, that creates 377ci. Now we can create a shortcut for this, by combining one of the earlier steps.If we substitute 0.7854 for the pi times the radius squared, we can computedisplacement by multiplying BORE X BORE X STROKE X 0.7854 X number of cylinders. This is the short formula for computing displacement. For Example, with a bore of 4.155 and a stroke of 3.75, we will have; 4.155 X 4.155 X 3.75 X0.7854 X 8= 406.77ci. Bob
