There are cam swaps for the LS series engines. I would look into that. There are also these tune up shops that can recalibrate your ECM. The only thing to be concerned about if you go that route, if you do any other engine MODS. the ECM will have to be recalibrated. I had a 2002 GMC 2500 with a 4:10 rear gear. The best truck I ever owned!

I had a 2003 Chevy 2500 before it got ripped off. It towed well and gave little trouble. I would think a cam swap and recalibration, like Bob said, could get you another 50 hp without losing too much mileage. Of course a blower or turbo would get a bigger boost in power if you are looking for a couple of hundred more but the cost would be a lot more.
