I just purchased a 1967 impala. Needs a driveshaft but has a rebuilt 327 motor in it. Guy I purchased vehicle from said that it will need a custom driveshaft.. just need some help whether this is true. Some, anyone, if you know anything about this let me know i want to get this bad boy up and running asap! thank you much!

Did he say why it may need a custom driveshaft?

If it's a convertible it may need a split driveshaft. The convertibles have an X frame. I think you should be able to find something in a junkyard.

Unless he changed the transmission, used a different rear,or set the engine back. I don't know why he said that. I don't have the slightest idea.

Can he give you a little more information then that?

Bob,

he said that HE was told it needed a custom drive shaft. He didnt know why, and i got lucky i spoke spanish because his english was rusty. He didnt even know why. The engine was replaced with a 327, thats all he could tell me. My watch commander went with me to pick up car and help negotiate the deal. He as well said that he didnt understand the need for a custom driveshaft. The transmission is still automatic, and i know he didnt set the engine back... maybe he was just confused. Where do you think i could look to see whether it needs a custom or not?

Let's start at the beginning...Does it HAVE a driveshaft in it now?

If yes, does it vibrate at any speed?

off topic...
Have you paid your dues to King Neptune?

No driveshaft in it at all. Nor does it have a shifter, im looking at getting that as well. The motor cranks up nice! Shes loud as hell, and sounds clean and crisp. Only problem was that the man said he had been informed that it would need a custom driveshaft to fit the engine?? Me nor my partner knew why he said that, we were under the impression we could pick one up at a junk yard.

And no sir, I dont know who King Neptune is?

Many times if someone says "custom driveshaft" that simply means a new one rather than used. Thats because anytime you make a new one, its kinda like "custom" exhaust that you have made at the muffler shop, in that they just make it to fit. Last time I needed driveshaft work, I went to a truck shop and asked for new u-joints and a new rear yoke plus balancing. They replied why spend all that money on the old one when we can make a whole new one for the same price? So thats what I did, got a whole new custom driveshaft with new yokes and upgraded u-joints, and balanced nicely. I don't think it was $200 but its been awhile. Seriously, building new driveshafts is super-common. And having the beefier replacement parts they use now in place of the stock stuff is great peace of mind.

Reasons the car may need this: Trans swap most likely, lots of 67 Impalas came with Powerglides and have been swapped to TH350s or TH400s or from 3 speed to four. If you can see that the transmission crossmember has been moved from it's original position on the frame, theres your answer. Also could be a rearend swap, to one with a different pinion yoke. Or the trans swap might use a different front yoke. In any case, since you have no driveshaft, you'll need to haul the car to the driveshaft shop or measure it like they ask you to.

For some reason it won't let me post links to Dennys or Mark Williams. Either or both sites give detailed information about measuring and ordering to fit your application.

Scott, are you going through the "quick reply" or "post reply".,. I have no difficulty replying to this, or any other thread, in either mode.
Might help to reboot your pc.,. try that.

Scott:
If it makes you feel any better. I've been having a problem on a Ford web-site.I'm on 18-20 sites. But Chevy is my heart now and has been for 40 years.
I have owned some very fast Fords in the day. Sold my last one 3 years ago. It was 1964 Galaxie 500 XL P-Code FE 390 with a 4 speed. 9" with 3:90 Gear and a Locker. Maroon over Black. All original.

I can leave a mess that I can't post any web-sites for this lady to go to. Wants to get racing seats for her husband for christmas.

But I can't post the web-sites. I posted 4 for her, and I went back to check it said the message was a duplicate. Noone has posted so I'm guessing they are having the same problem????

I've turned computer off, overnight and back on, then off when I left the house, and back on. Logged out of site and back in. Gone through reply to thread, quick reply, and the links I'm trying to post are for Denny's Driveshaft and Mark Williams Enterprises, at lweast so the OP can have an address or preferably a clickable link to go to those sites and hopefully get the information or help he needs.

Ususally I can wait a few hours, like overnight, and try again and be okay but this has gone on for hours and on multiple threads.
