Just bought a 2001 Silverado with a 4.8. Only 70,000 miles. Looking at some mild performance and or mpg improvements. Looking into the GTE stage one chip and the new JDM stage 3 OBD II module. Any yes or no or better ideas?
welome to the forum: Nice find....Your headed in the right direction. Make sure to ask if they supply you with a 180* T Stat.1.You could start off with the basics, ohm the coils and ignition wires2.Change the spark plugs3.AD a bug deflector to the hood. You didn't say if 4X4 or 2 wheel drive. It's hard to get good mileage out of a 4X4. Plus thats a small engine in comparisson the a 6.0.Bob
It is a 2 wheel drive. What will the 180 t stat do? Thanks for the info for sure. Car performance chip review rated the GTE chip #1 so I am going to get that but was looking at the JDM stage 3 OBD II module but can not find any reviews on it anywhere. Any thought on it? Are there any plugs that are really better than others?
The 4.8 is a good engine and you should be getting 15-21 MPG.The chips are good, but dont forget to combine it with,K&N air filterNew exhaust systemLower gears for the rear end, I think most 2 wheel drives came with 3.42 so a 4.10 would be a performance upgrade but it wont help with fuel mileage. The 180 will help with spark knock or detonation with spirited driving keeping the computer from retarding the timing thus reducing performance. Although running 93 octane gas should compensate and lowering the temp on the stat should not be needed.
Those are awesome tips.. I also have a 4.8 in my 08 silverado.. I'm new to the website.. What type of exhaust would you recommend to let it breath a little better??
