wanting to know if a new set of heads would be worth the money or not. I currently have sbc 383 10.5 compression solid flat tappet cam. World sportsman heads 2.08 1.6 valves. 79 camaro runs 11.97 shifting at 6300 rpms. If i shift any higher it slows down. I really  dont want to run it abouve 6500 so a 200cc head should be about right. will like a set of pro 1 or any other 200cc head even really help me that much over what my sportsmans already do. I found a brand new set of pbm alum 200cc heads for 600 bar. Thats cheap for alum heads but will thay be worth it.

Hey Dude, didn't you make it a track only car or is it still street driven? those are good heads... what do you have for an intake,I know you said before.I forgot! You can buy a lot of other stuff for 600 to go quicker.

I would check the valve springs maybe their not up to the cam your running. Solid flat tappet cams usually if set-up correctly in your valve train will run until your engine comes unglued. Wether or not it's making power or not.

I would check the valve train for broken springs, springs that have lost their tension, see if the rocker arms are hitting the valve seals,or valve guilds.

It's also possible you have to much rear gear. Tire size also makes a difference.

I would do that before spending money on heads. It doesn't sound like the heads are the problem just the components.

i only have a 3.90 gear and 26 inch slicks. Springs are good for cam and i have checked with filler guages when springs are compressed. I just knew sprotsman heads are out dated and was wanting somthing more. I talked to afr and they said run there 195 eliminator heads, and i looked at dyno results with less cam and lower compresion then myne and they were making over 500 with them. Afr and dart both told me that with my compression being just over 10 that i am moe than likely hurting myself by running 110 octane and go back down to 93 or so. i am going to lighten it up a bit with glass hood and take the stock tank out of it and put my new fuel cell in it.

Then it just sounds like you've run out of camshaft. I'd find out what the problem is before buying any heads. Something is holding your combination back. You should be making a little more horse power. If you say the valve springs are good I really don't have any idea's based on the info you gave. That's where I would start. Maybe someone else has some ideas to help you. Good Luck.

Things to check
Compression
Valve springs!!!
Cam Wear
Carb
Timing

What cam and what valve springs?  More importantly how are the valve springs set up?  Seat pressure and open pressure?

The 2.08 intake valve is gonna add some weight.  Most manufacturers are a little too soft on their reccomended valve springs and when you add the weight of a larger than average valve....you could very well be missing out on a bit of the power you could be making.

that said though it sounds like the combo is real strock.  Nothing exotic sounding going on yet youre in teh 11's.

About the heads....Id be super leery of any new aluminum heads that are that cheap.

Lot of junk chinese castings out there using cheap hardware.  They probably are not a worthwhile upgrade.

dont get me wrong im happy with 11s, but just was wanting to know if my heads were holding anything back. i still like the sound of those afr 195 though. what about them telling me to drop my fuel back down to 93, them meaning dart and afr. i just really wanted to get down to low 11.90 or 11.80 instead of right on the bubble. And yeah i threw out the idea of those heads for 600 bucks, would rather pay another 400 for a bare set of darts and have a better piece of mind about them.

I have to agree with Greg the problem with the junk japan is sending out I would be careful.

I just saw an ad for Aluminum and Titanium connecting rods by GRP, It said all finish machining done in the USA. So a once well known Con-Rod maker is bringing junk into the USA also.... I don't know when it will stop? If it ever will? They made $1,000 ea. Titanium Con-Rods for Tractor pulling??? If their doing it alot more are also. The younger guys don't remember when once president Bill Clinton signed the NAFTA agreement.
In short that sold the USA down the river as we know it....
Thank's
Bob
