Does anyone know where the proper place for the ground (negative) side of the battery goes on a 1969 Camaro SS/RS 396/375? Small blocks used the alt bracket, I am trying to restore to original. I think it is somewhere on the front of the block, but not sure where.

There are 2 holes on the front left of the block not used, so either will be fine.

this is my 454 that I just rebuilt, the block is the same.

Yes they did use the Alternator bracket ground from the battery. If you use a Chrome Alt. bracket make sure you grind off the Chrome under the cable eye, or you may not get a good ground connection.

The battery Positive went down to the Large Lug on the Starter solonoid. I know it maybe over-kill but try to install the heaviest gauge battery cables you can. Possibly a #2 or #1 cable.

Also make sure you install a ground strape from the hood to the firewall. Again scrape the paint from those areas! That is a cable ground that NAPA should.

It never hurts to run a heavier gauge cable then the factory sent the car out with. You could even install extra grounds for security..Go from one of the lower bolt holes to the motor mount that is connected to the frame.
Thank's
