Fairly sure that is a 350 based on the heads. Take the heads off and see what the pistons look like. Are the pistons Dished or are they flat tops? While you have the heads off measure the bore. If its 4 inches its a 350. *** since the heads are off Ditch them. The 333882 heads are JUNK!! Seriously!

you sure you got the 3970000 # correct?  +1, 882's are open chamber junk. probabley an old 350 4-bolt. check the numbers again.

keep the engine. The inner web of a 2 bolt block is stronger than a 4 bolt. Plus if you have the engine rebuilt you can have 4 bolt splayed main caps put on during machining making your engine stronger than an original 4 bolt. Depending on mileage it may need a line-hone anyways. At the same time put in some flat-top pistons. Rebuilding heads is not cheap. After all the machining and fitting them with new valves, springs and needed hardware you would be better off buying a set of Dart Iron Eagles, or a set from Summit Racing(cast by Dart), or just get a stock set of freshened Vortecs.

882 heads are not junk if you know wat to do with them. Friendbhad a set on a 350 in hisndrag car. Was runnin low 7s in the 1/8th mile. Might have been high 6s. I dont remember. If you know how to port them and grind the intake to fit andnypurngaskets and dont just buy parts and slap em together expecting a ton of horsepower. 882 heads are cast ironnandbheavy. But if you know how to port heads. They make a pretty good head. The 350 did not have a ton of money in itneither. It was a shadetree guy that loves to race and knows how to make power without tons of money. As fsr as then350 or 305. I have same question. Pulled one out of my 57 chevy truck gonna drop a 400 (bored to 406 with dart alluminum heads) the motor i pulled out is painted blue and has casting # 397000. The guy i bought truck from said it was a 350. But it didnt seem to have the power of a 350.

This week's first-poster digging up a 2 year old thread.

Are we now going to argue the usefulness of 882 heads like we do over the usefulness of the 305 or 307?

WTH, I have a set of 882s, did some work on them, they performed good on a torquey 300hp driver. I have them stored now, waiting for me to need a similar driver.

Relax Scott.,. 882's were junk smog heads. We all know that there is nothing that can be done to them.,. to turn them into performance heads. <-- period

+1
The only thing that you can do with them is waste a lot of money on them and still have junkie heads.

Even get an engine near the boiling point and they crack. They are boat anchors.
