I have what's got to be the most idiotic question ever. I got a 1991 van engine from a guy ( it ran good, I heard it), he took it out for me (hey, he wanted to do it) and I put it in my '81 Z/28. When I went to put the dipstick tube back in the hole in the block it wasn't on the left (drivers) side like the old engine. I thought no sweat, it's on the other side. But to my surprise I can't find it there either! WTF I surely can't be that blind. What research I've done says it's probably on the passenger side , but where?

There is no bad questions. dipstick hole should be on passenger side somewhere near the bottom by the oil pan. You may have to buy a dipstick tube for a 1991 camaro with a 305. It should work with your new block.
