hi to you all good people my name is marvin and I would realy like to know what engines(4cylinder) are based on the Small block chevy, ford, mopar or other V8 out there, I think by this time these engines must be produced anymore and are getting older and older..

if they where based on a small block, what parts do interchange between them both?

thank you in advance.........

The only ones I remember were custom made by cutting a Chevy V-8 in half and getting a special crank and cam made up.
These were made for racing in a class for 4 cyl only back in the 60s or 70s.
They were able to use any V-8 chevy head available at the time, along with pistons and rods, so I imagine it worked out OK back then. That is the only 4 cyl. engine I know of that was based on the Chevy V-8.

i am almost sure that chevy has a current sprint car motor that uses a single small block chevy head...

i can only think of the pontiac 4... in the early 60's...

mercury marine has a 3.0L   four cylinder that uses a single 460 ford head... on an aluminum block.. as i recall..

ran across this link... some real history there

thanks friends, I have done some reasearch and found that there was a 4cylinder engine on the 1962 chevy II that was based on the pontiac v8...there is also a marine 4 cylinder vortec engine but I'm not shure if its compatible with any vortec v8 engine....I also have heard midget racing cars use 4 cylinder engines based on a v8(cut in half),

what I am getting to is, have all of this engine's crankshafts the same dimentions(leghnt, barring size) as their v8 counterparts? are they just Flat plane Crankshafts?
