I have gotten into some arguments over this motor.
How do I KNOW its a 327? Cause it came out of my brothers camaro. I also looked up the casting numbers.
What have I done to it so far?
650cfm 4 brl Edelbrock. Stage 2 edelbrock intake. (jr i think) I know its a edelbrock intake for sure.
Some sort of aftermarket cam The heads have been polished and ported. And of course its got a set of headers.
I got into a pissin contest with my best friend who him self has a bad ass truck. his is 79. mine is 90. c/k 1500s
a 350 bored .030 over and his top secret (305) heads. (i got that out of his girlfriend by accident) his dyno was 340+hp. demon carb.
I have people tell me that I dont have a chance against 350 stock. 327 was a piece of crap motor.
I have other people tell me that I have a motor that will run like a scalded ape. Possibly 300 - 350 HP. My I know my brother invested heavily into this motor. However, Our age differences blur the line between fast and furious.
what ya'all think?

well, you could go through the trouble of ripping it apart, measuring the bore and finding out what stroke the crank is then do the math to give you the CI haha have fun

327 was an excellent motor. Alot of stock 327's came out with 300hp and 350 packages.

Stage 2 Edelbrock intake? Some sort of aftermarket cam? 327's can be made into strong running engines but you really dont know what you have.

Did you check the suffix code. The small journal 327 was one of the best small block chevy's ever produced and can be a great performer.
Horsepower sells Engines and torque wins races.

There is nothing wrong with the old 327s. Bigger is better however. We used to run one of the 327s long ago and we wound that thing to 8000 then power shifted. It had an Isky roller cam with the valley kit and we never found the rev limit. A crummy Hurst 4 speed shifter we had whould hang in second when shifted to third and the engine would just keep on pullin. The tach only went to 8500 so we had no idea what it wound to.

As many have eluded to but have not yet stated, a 327 will probably make the most specific output of any first generation small block Chevy. So, they are not junk.

Hi there, The base power of a 327cu" SBC was 225/250 hp depending on carburetion. Most came with a forged steel crank. The cyl/head valves were a puzzle wheras they could be one of 3 sizes of which the largest were 2" with 157 inlet flow which could greatly improved upon with the expertise of a Dedicated Tradesman. By the way I hope your heads have NOT got mirror shined inlets? If you want this project to have some life then use a real cam like GM 221/221*..447/447 or if you have the $$$ then use an ISKY 222/222/465/465 and ANY 600/650 tuned and jetted accordingly will give you a bit better than 340hp with a decent exhaust system. If you are using an auto box then a 2200 to 2400 stally would help settle the matter.. As far as a "stock' 350 goes there are MANY recipes that cover that story. All the power in the world is useless if the rest of the car is not as fit as the rebuilt motor. All the best from Skyeking......

Skyeking, those are words to live by. Unfortunately not everyone follows this simple rule.
I've seen to many builds start from the engine and work its way down and back. The rule I always follow is brakes first, suspension, trans/driveline, and then the extra power.
Makes my life a heck of a lot easier.
