jondeyoung,
Cut springs are a big no no! Everytime you cut springs you increase the spring rate, and this can cause unsafe handling and potential suspension failure.

Always use proper components.

I didn't realize that. I used air shocks when i did it so i could set the level of the car just so the tires didn't rub the inner fenders. I ended taking the front subframe off for my firebird anyway. Which now has coilovers. I don't plan on cutting springs again if it is unsafe. I have a 2 year old daughter who rides in my vehicles and her safety is my #1 priority. I do appreciate your concern for safety. Maybe adjustable coilovers would be an option to lower the caprice. They are spendy though.

I love coilovers! Their great for fine tuning the ride since you are able to choose your spring rate for each corner, and the overall un-compressed length of the spring will play a role in how the car rides.

When I was looking for gettn I did not find any premade kits. That means a custom setup using QA1 shocks.

I have two boys, so safety is always the first thing that I consider before deciding on a modification.

Welcome to the board jon.

AGREED! Safety for some reason is a second thought when it comes to suspension mods.

I've noticed that, and I don't understand why. I guess to some saving a few bucks is more important.

Going fast is fun but going fast in a death trap is just stupid! Thats why I asked for help on this car. If I could find an aftermarket supplier for the parts I need I would just buy them

I'll def check them out. Looking for stiffer than factory but still comfortable for long cruises

The issue with gettn's model year is that it is an oddball, sort of. The aftermarket focuses on the generation before and after. Luckily the springs for the 78-96 Caprices (and 95-96 Impala SS) are the same diameter and the height varies by .5" to 1.25" from gettn's stock springs.  The shocks are the same mounting setup from 73 to 96 from my research. The only snaggle is the swaybar. I would have to measure a bar to compare dimensions.

i usually  check there first (seems like they have something for nearly every vehicle) and if they don't have it i go to energy suspension or rancho...depending on the vehicle

pst didn't have the stuff i needed for my 67 c-20, but energy did

Its been a real challenge to find susp parts for this car. If I wanted what everyone else had I would have kept my 70 1/2 split bumper camaro.

that's pretty much the way i feel too

although it would be nice to be able to look into ANY catalog and find EVERY part that you could possibly need, it is much more satisfying to have something different than everyone else...makes the final outcome all the more sweeter too...sense of accomplishment...more than just writing checks for the parts and/or work

if you're looking for some rear trailing arms...i met a guy at the track this summer that has a set of after-market arms for a 74 caprice/impala

pm me and i'll pass on your email to him

68, do you know what brand those arms are? That info might be handy for me down the road.
