headers cool to touch

i recently replaced head gaskets (white exhaust) tightened everything to specs, adjusted rockers like i have a hundred times before, initially drove fine now rough idle (almost impossbile to idle) and headers to cylinders 2,7,8 are warm to touch but others evaporate spit in a millisecond. have switched plugs and wires from good cylinders to bad and same issue persists. carb is an eldelbroc quad. everything was fine beforehand other than white smoke and lowering rad fluid.
any thoughts?
take care

What type of ignition are you running?  Check the dist. cap.  Missing any rags?

What kind/brand ignition are you running? Check your dist. cap. If your running points type dist or a mag, make sure your points are good. If HEI, make a quick check of your reluctor and pick up while you're in there.

no white smoke or coolant loss
also running unilite distributor replaced cap and rotor, also i'm getting spark at cylinders
will try compression test next couple of days as i have to pull headers to get tester in cylinders 1,2,7,8
funny thing is exhaust seems to jet out of tailpipe wouldn't this be unlikely with only 5 cylinders potentially firing?
thanks

i set it 8 btc, timing light is not working, i'm going to check vacuum tomorrow then cylinder pressure later in week. its a 1973 but i put a catalytic convertor (thinking green) and when i changed the cyl heads i had alot of rad fluid fall into headers and thinking the fluid rusted or clogged up convertor as i heard this has similar symptoms. i just don't think its my cylinder head gaskets as rad pressure is fine oil looks clean and the loss of cylinders 2,7,8 has me wondering.

i should add the vacuum advance always has lined up somewhere aligned with bolt on intake manifold (its always been there through 12 years and 2 rebuilds.

Have you run a compression test yet on those cylinders?
