72 and older

Do you guys think car shows should be limited to 72years and older?  

No there are many cars that deserve attention. The point of car show is to see different things. Not the main point but its one of them lol  

i don't think that shows should be limited by the year of production...but i do understand the arguments of the street rod guys...their body styles stopped being produced in the 50's and to let street machines into their shows would somehow take attention away from the unique issues of building a street rod...the beautiful thing about street rods is that anything can and has been welded together and driven to one of those shows

back to current cars and shows...if there was a 1972 cutoff implimented, i'd be sol by three years...that monte might be a little heavier than your nova or camaro but it'll hold it's own with polyurethane suspension, big sway bars, aftermarket aluminum heads with matching cam and intake and a 700r4...and i get stupid quick behind the wheel...should i be discriminated against because i didn't build something of a popular year and/or model...if so then where does it end?...no b-bodies, nothing with a four cylinder...yeah okay, we can do that

but the point was that there really are too many cars that are nice to look at to stop letting them in because of production year  

I used to have a 76 monte they are nice cars but in the purist form of the definition they werent muscle cars,they were smog era cars.so some shows(69nova knows of the ones in our area),in the main show they have the 72 cutoff so the actual show cars are all true muscle cars and all the others are just in another side lot.but thats only a couple of select Muscle Car shows in our area, at all the others everyone is there.  

yeah, there's always gonna be some sanctioning body that wants a certain type of vehicle showcased and i can understand that

and you're right about the big montes...even the ones that came with big blocks had insufficient suspension to handle the added performance

even the first gen monte carlos weren't muscle cars, they were tauted as the "luxury" performance car...performance and heated seats don't go together in my book  

i love to see all cars but in some of our shows i think space was another issue.

you can't go to a corvette show with your chevette and expect to be let in
you won't be able to get your bowtie into an oval event
the nsra won't accept anything later than a 49 model

sooooo, given who the event sponsors are, there may be some limitations to what will be let in  

I think if you own a car you think is cool, then it's cool to me. As far as a cutoff date, I like to see them all. Shows that limit years of production are ok too in my book, like I said, I like to see them all! Might get an idea for a project, or a color or a feature like injection on a small block in a 55. Never know what you might find at a car show.

i too get ideas by looking at what other have done, regardless of make or model
i like the local cruise type shows...they're usually open to whatever is driven in...sometimes you can even find some guys that aren't too good to talk to you  

Diversity is nice but some cars dont belong at certain shows. I dont like cut-off dates either

i dont believe that there should be a limit of year of production. theres a lot of cool things out there. theres a lot of cars past 72 worth being in a car show. nothing wrong with late model muscle in my book. its all good  

Nothing wrong at all with late model muscle cars. I mean who doesn't love a gen III or gen IV Camaro.
