I have always wanted learn how to build a car and now I have my 1st projet car. It is going to be a family project car with my dad and two brothers. I love the '50's Chevy's and obtained a nice 54' 210 four door. Clean body and interior. We all have very little mechanical experience and will need lots of help. I have decided to swap in a 350 which means everything needs to be changed. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a rear end that would be a good fit and decent gear ratio for casual driving. I heard one out of a 1970-81 camaro would bolt directly on. Is this true? I have a tight budget and am hoping to be able to part swap from later vehicles. Any paticuliar year or model would be a good match. Thank you for you help.

If you were one year newer, (1955), the engine would have bolted right in and you could have used the rear that was in the car. They could handle about 300 HP without too much trouble. Having a 54 makes things more difficult and expensive.
I doubt the 70-81 Camaro rear would just bolt right in without bracket changes.
If budget is a concern and you can weld a junkyard rear could be fabricated.
We picked up a 9" rear from an old 70s T Bird for our 72 Nova that held up pretty well until we hit it with about 1200HP. Then it blew the bearing support right out of it.
Moser makes a lot of bolt in rears for different cars. I would call them and ask what is available for your car. Cost there is around 2200 which might stop you.
All your engine mounts will have to be fabbed as well as your trans mount. Custom headers will probably be needed but some companies may make headers for that swap.
The performance from the old stove bolt 6 vs the V-8 is like night and day.
