ok so i have a 2005 silverado with a 4.3l manual transmission. i want a to upgrade to a v8. i heard that 350 would be the easiest to put in.
would the 350 mount to the 4.3l motor mounts? could i still use the manual transmission? does it matter what year 350 i use? and what would i need besides the motor and comp?
please help me thank you so much

with a 2005 i would think the easiest conversion would be to an ls series motor

the cheapest/ best route in my opinion is probably going with a lq4 or lq9 , 6.0 with a z06 cam or higher. if im not mistaken i beleive the v6 computer will work on the engine. you may need new springs for the added weight. and i don't see why ur transmission would not bolt up, just make sure to find a reputable tuner who uses the hp-tune , preferably someone who can tune on a dyno.
it will probably cost more to put in an older gen engine.

It would prob be cheaper to turbo charge your current engine

please dont put a 350 in a 2005 truck. find any lsx series engine... even the 4.8L v8 would sufficient, they put out as much hp/tq as the 350 did in the previous style tuck. these days you can find the 4.8L, 5.3L, and sometimes the 6.0L pretty cheap with decent miles on them at local junkyards. other than that... why not sell the truck and just go buy a v8 truck?

Which v8 would get be better gas mileage also? The reason im keeping mine is because its paid off.

i have a friend who swapped his 5.3 for a ls 350 in his 03 silverado. He gets 18-20 highway mpg. He pulled the ls from a wrecked 2002 special edition ls1 camaro. Not sure what he did for a computer though.

With the 4.8 could i use the manual transmission? What parts could i reuse out of the engine bay to save money?

all the engines will get the same milage , the truck is heavy so the smaller the engine the more it struggles to get moving , your v6 probably is getting equal or less gas milage than any of the v8's mentioned.
any of these engines for a daily driver are good, but if you plan on racing go for the ls1 or bigger.
you may have to upgrade ur radiator if its not big enough , if not possibly just some higher cfm ls1 fans or aftermarker.

Traditionally Chevy used the same bolt pattern for the transmissions, sot it should but I can't speak from experience.

also silverado , hp-tune the *** out of that v8. iv seen spectacular numbers just out of the tune alone , make sure you are dealing with an experienced tuner who's got some ls customers in the 10's or lower. a place to start is with the trans-am and camero crowd.
