I have a mild built 383 with 10:5:1 compression. I have stock 305 58cc heads on it currently. I was looking to swap it to a 2.02 1.60 76cc to increase flow. will i gain from this or will i loose power do to loss of compression? I have Flat top 10:5:1 pistons.

why dont you swap for some 64cc heads and have them ported? with this i think you will gain power depending on carb, intake, cam.

yea i have a 600cfm holley carb, torker manifold, and a 224 224 duration @ .050 with a 465 lift cam. i was along the lines of hoping the 2.02 1.60 heads would flow it alot better.

What kind of heads and how much money do you have to spend? what kind of power are you tryin to make? the bigger valves will help. If going with some better heads i would(over time)look at an rpm air gap(i hate the torker)750dp and a bit of a bigger cam somewhere in the .500 lift range.

Ya going with better heads will not help much unless you get a bigger cam and carb.

yea i was going to put in a bigger carb. around a 670 avenger. the car in a weekend car so i do have a limit. im trying to get the car at at least around 380 hp. i dont want to rely on a 150 shot to play around a bit. The car right now prolly only has 300 or so. thats why im trying to open her up. i figured 2.02s with a bigger carb an cam will do it.

realy?.. sounds good. yea i have the pair of heads already bought so i guess i have no choice but to hope the 76cc head will work. as long as i keep 9:5:1 ill be ok. I realy dont know if these heads will make me slower or faster. hopfully the bigger valves add over the loss compression

It depends on which heads you are going with if you have a set of heads and just had 2.02 valves installed in the place of a smaller valve you will not see a big difference not all heads with 2.02 valves are equal.

are they out of the box heads? if so you can get some porting work done to lower the cc of the head. what kind of head gasket are you running? you can go to a smaller head gasket to get a higer compression. Them heads are going to flow way better. more air and fule = more power.

yea i hear ya on that. but yea there replacing stock 305 heads. but seeing how they are bought already i might as well put them in and see what happens. im just praying like hell they will end up being a positive small difference or not. and i was int aware that a head gasket could higher compression. good to know. ill be looking for a lot of small ways to help my compression as much as posible. and the heads came from aerohead performance. there redone heads that have been milled
