I wonder why the Port topic was closed, anyone have any ideas?

Maybe they didn't like our conversation. I'm baffled!

Whats up with this *** Dont tell me porting is off limits for discussion! Maybe their afraid of losing advertisement money? This makes no sense to me!!!  Now back to the topic of porting. Anyone else want to chime in on their experience with porting good or bad?

IT's not locked yet, so everyone chime in on porting heads. What's your opinion!

I closed the "PORTING" topic since it was vastly off-topic, similar to this thread.

Nobody here has yet to talk about porting, at least till now...

I will say this, those that are asking if porting is good or bad don't really understand the concept...

Cylinder head porting is a necessary step in the design/development of any high performance engine, whether it be on a workbench or with a computer-aided drafting program. Skilled head porters are engineers with die grinders in their hands. The problems rooted in fluid dynamics that head porters address are the same that were considered by whomever was designing the cylinder head in the first place.

That all being said, it's easy to see that I view porting as an aspect of cylinder head design, but maybe there are differing opinions from my own - feel free to bring up some specific applications. I'm sure there will be many that enjoy contributing to this topic.

Gib, not to beat an almost dead horse, but how was the porting thread different than any other thread that has gone vastly off topic?

Good examples will be the "Nova" post, the two Camaro posts, and I'm sure there are several more.

I think this may have to do with one's definition of "porting". This could be anywhere from changing the engineering of a port, to a little clean up or blend on a non CNC design. With the latter, you feel better about doing some good but depending on the application, it may go unnoticed when it comes to performance.

Heres my def of porting:its the process of modifying the intake&exhaust ports of an internal combustion engine to improve quality&quantity of gas flow. Maybe that'll help

I apologize If I was a little hasty to close the original "porting" topic but when I saw a thread entitled porting that had no information about cylinder heads and was rather talking about a Geo Prizm I wanted it gone.

That is a pretty good definition Jon, especially it being that concise.

Maybe I shoud have been clearier on my topic but porting a cylinder head is nothing new to me. I've been doing this for 20yrs and I know I'm the last of a dying breed cause most people would rather buy aftermarket heads.

Hi there,
For those who cannot afford High Po heads then I found that a good
pocket porting and bowl clean up along with precise inlet and exhaust
port matching is worth the effort and the money..Some old iron heads
are much better than believed and only need a skilled tradesman to get
rid of the obstructions that kill off their potential. Even my 305 got
30 HP increase at 4600 rpm which was a good job well done...Skyeking..

Why did you want it gone because there was two posts about a CHEVY Prizm (mine is a 98 which is when they were badged Chevy)?

There was mention of porting in my initial post, I guess that was overlooked because it did not mention a Chevy V8.

Still baffled why the post was locked. Your reason doesn't jive with the way the rest of the forum is moderated.

I've ported other heads besides SBC and personaly believe when a head is broken down port by port it doesnt matter if its a 4cyl head or one head off a V8
