My apologies I misread. They are expensive but it is still a great way to go. I have had flat tappet and roller cams both mechanical and hydraulic and I swear by rollers. I had about a 25 hp gain by converting a 377 to a roller block. Could've had more but the car it was an 85 T/A without subframe connectors and mostly stock drivetrain and suspension. The motor put 392 hp and 428 ft lbs and when i put the roller cam in it, it put out 418hp and 431 ft lbs on the dyno. If you are trying to save money go with hyd. flat tappet. If you can squeeze an extra $600. Go with roller.

I forget sometimes how much people pay for these set-ups. Cam,retro-fit lifters,pushrods,cam button I guess about a grand. Hyd.roller isnt practical for everybody

it would be going in a third gen camaro. i meant hydraulic roller or flat tappet. its a $10,000 budget for the whole car including the price of the car. i havent bought any of the parts yet, this is all theoretical. figured the smart thing to do would be ask before i did anything. i plan on getting a TKO or T56 trans and a new rear end also. i dont know much about using cam specs to match the application. i was hoping you guys could help with that.
thanks =]

I don't budget. I just buy things when I can afford it and as I need them. Too much stress otherwise. I normally start with suspension, then drivetrain, then the motor. That way when i get around to the motor, I know what I can work with for engine size, hp, what size stall or clutch type, etc.

well, when i say $10,000 i mean thats what i ideally want to put in it but i know that ill end up spending more that that.
thats just a figure for parts on paper before the project is finished. or in this case, even gets started.

If you dont put a time limit on your project you could just wait and buy what you need when you find a deal on it.

+1, you can get a nice car with most of the stuff you need for 10gs and then add stuff as you go.i bought the 72lemans i use to have for 5000 with a blowen up 400pontiac,spent 2500 on the motor rebuild and it already had a nice th350 and strong 10bolt with 4.10s out back. What ever you do dont rush buying the car.
The lemans is for sale $6000. motor has less than two hundred miles.

I buy parts when I find a deal on them and they either get put to use on a project of mine or sold for a little profit. Either way I come out to the good
