hello,
i am looking at a an 82-92 camaro with a 350 for my first build. since i have never biult a motor before, i figured id list my ideas ask get some feedback. i know quite a bit about 350s but, like i said this is my first build so feel free to share any and all knowledge.
ok here it goes
-350 block from GMPP should i get a one piece rear main seal or two peice?
-eagle forged crank, rods, and hypereuretic pistons and bearings ($600 kit)
-AFR 180 or 195cc aluminum heads
-comp cams thumper cam kit. i stil havent decided if i should go with flat tappet or hydraulic.
-edelbrock performer RPM intake
-either edelbrock performer RPM carb or holley carb. 600-650 cfm.
this wont be a daily driver, but definitely not just a weekend car. i want around 400+ hp and ft lbs is this achievable with this combo?
thanks for the help guys. any advice is wanted.

Either 1or2 pc seal dosent really matter. Hyd cams are flat tappet cams. Make sure you get the rotating assemble balanced. List the specs of the cam your referring too. The Edelbrock Performer RPM is a great intake. The heads and carb depend on the cam specs. 400HP is easy to get when the correct parts are used. What type of car is it going in? Whats the budget?

im with blacksheep, 383 not that much more money.depending on you compression ratio you would be over 400hp with a nice cam(.490-.490 @.50)Do you have the car yet? that weaker 10bolt and trans might have to go.

Hi there, 195's are the way to go if you want 400/400 whether it is a 355/383 etc.,. There many cams that will be optional for your needs with variable torque planes to suit the car's gearing. For 400hp I would use B/G 725 road demon or Holley 750 street with 70/78s on the RPM inlet. Good luck with the project...Skyeking.....

I like a 383 on the street to but if he's already bought the crank theres no sense in starting over. People should ask for advice before they buy parts not after.

What is your crank designed for? 1 or 2 piece? Also if ur looking for 400+ hp id lose the thumper cam and go with an Edelbrock Performer RPM Hydraulic Roller Camshafts. It is matched to your edelbrock performer rpm intake from and their 350 with a 9.5.1 comp gets 410 hp. U should also go with edelbrock rpm heads instead of afr. afr is a great head but this rpm package is a great deal as well and its performance is proven. You can get a complete package from summitracing.com for $1600. that includes cam, lifters, double roller timing chain, alum. heads, rpm AIR GAP manifold, pushrods, bolts and gaskets. Also go with a 670 holley carb. Unless you are gonna port, polish, or stroke your motor.

If someone is gonna spend the money on aftermarket heads it doesnt make sense not to use a Hyd.Roller Cam too.

well it is the way to go but if you dont have the money its not because they cost 3x as much.i use a hyd flat tappet with aluminum fastburn vortecs with good results

3x as much is majorly exaggerated. And edelbrock aluminum head is $570 a pice. AFR aluminum head with matching sizes and features is approx. $732 a piece. Aluminum fastburn heads run $680 a piece. So all in all edelbrock would still be a great way to go. Unless you decide to go with cast iron heads(which is easy to get 400hp out of) edelbrock is the way to go. Try for a 10.1 compression with this combination and it should put you around 440-450 hp.
