Hi there, With that good choice of cam matched with the moderate compression you can be a bit on the conservative side and go for 170 heads + a Std Performer manifold. There should be a flat torque plane with a 600 cfm carby..You should be able to advance the cam a few degrees for some extra initial lift. Check out Single valve springs with narrow diameter and 100lbs/330. With or without damper will not matter much. A standard early design G.M. H.E.I should be plenty for this moderate combo...Good luck and have fun...Skyeking......

Less can be more at times. I've seen to many combos killed with too much cam and carb

I just picked up a set of the rhs vortec of ebay. They've got 2.02 and 1.60 valves and 64cc chambers. I got for just over 700 new.

+1.
Horsepower sells Engines and torque wins races.

383 with those heads will make a great engine. It'll be a good engine without stroking it

i agree with the other guys my 383 has the aluminum vortec fastburns which i have 2.02 1.60 valves instead of the 2.00 1.55 that they come with so they are basically just an aluminum version of yours.it has 10.2:1 cr and is a very strong little motor making almost 500 ft/lb at 4600
