Need on building 350 for k-5 blazer

Hello. I'm wanting to build a budget 350 for my blazer and here's my question. I'm thinking about the patriot vortec heads, flat top pistons, 9.5to1 compresion, comps extreme 4x4 cam lift 206/214 duration 250/258 or maybe the next step up, performer rpm intake, and tri-y headers. I think this combo would pull pretty hard. But i'm worried that this combo would leave the motor slugish below 2500. I'm on a budget and wanted to use chevy vortec heads, the springs for the cam won't fit and i don't to pay to have the heads machined so the springs will fit. I was thinking i might bit the bullit and buy the rhs vortecs, i hear the really good. What do you think? Ant opions and suggetions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Sounds like you have thought about this one. IT'll be a strong pulling engine. What type of ignition system are you gonna use?

I was thinking the cheaper msd, with msd wires and diamond fire plugs.

Do you know what carb you plan on using? Everything so far will make a nice engine

I've got a edelbrock 600 and a 750, which one would work better. The heads have 185cc ports. do you think that'll kill the torque?

i agree the 600 would be better. the 185cc ports arnt to big it shouldnt kill the torque. if i were you i would build a 383, its not very much more at all and will give you alittle more lower end torque.

Ya the 600CFM will be plenty with that cam the 750CFM would definitely hurt the low end.
Horsepower sells Engines and torque wins races.

It's too bad that no one realizes that volumetric-flow through the carb has NO influence on low-end power.

overcarb a motor and see what happens

Out of the box the 600 would work better. It really has to do with using the right tool for the job. The purpose of the venturi size and carb volumetric rating is to enable the carb to properly proportion fuel to speed and load. That being said you wnat to use the carb that is going to do that where the engine will be seeing the most use. The amount of bottom end is directly proportioned to camshaft and cylinder head design among several other things including port velocity, and vacuum signal to the carb.

The truth is that you could use a 1000+ CFM dominator on a stock 350 and makes tons of low-end power if you could design a booster that would atomize the fuel well-enough.
But to state something a little more relevant to this topic, remember that dual plane intake manifolds and vacuum secondary carbs can help increase the amount of carb CFM that your engine can adequately use.

600 is plenty for your mild set-up
