Who would want to claim one of these? Or I guess more appropriately, why?

It happens. They allow claiming because it keeps people from going all out on motors that are mainly supposed to be stock. $500 and you can claim any motor if they place in an event i belive. Top 3 can be claimed.

if that's the case, we need to start rethinking the build up... start with the block he's got, upgrade the pistons to something with some compression get some good flowing heads...how good do they have to really be with a 350cfm cork on top? run a cam with about 230-235 duration (something that would run WELL between 2000 & 6000) at .050 and all the lift you can get to go with it use a good dual plane intake with an adapter plate to accept a 2bbl
if someone could walk up with $500 and take my motor i'd not spend any more on it than absolutely necessary...i'd also learn some porting techniques
hell, save the money and effort of the rebuild...go race and claim the motor of the winner...it would have to be cheaper that way

Like most racing to be competitive the rules have to be flexed some. Let us know what his new set of rules will be. I have some experience in this department

Well he decided to stay 2 man cruiser he is just going to a different track. Heres their rules. Its a little better than the last set of rules. THE POWER OF COPY AND PASTE! lol
CARBURETOR 1. All cars must run an OEM 2-barrel carburetor OR 4-barrel stock carb with rear barrels unhooked. No cutting or porting whatsoever on carburetors. You may remove choke plate and change jets only. A 2- barrel adapter is allowed. 2. Maximum 1-1/2" carburetor adapter plate may be used including gaskets.
ENGINES 1. All engines must be strictly stock for year, make and model of car being used. Must remain in stock location. Welding motor in solid is allowed. 2. Engine must idle at 700 RPM and pull 17" of vacuum. 3. All engines must match make of car being used (i.e. GM to GM, Ford to Ford, Dodge to Dodge, etc.) 4. No headers. Stock cast iron (unaltered) exhaust manifolds only. 5. No electric fuel pumps. 6. No after marked aluminum intakes.. 7. No ported or altered intake manifolds.

I dont like those classes.lol The first thing to remember is to run all the compression he can get. Since he's restricted on carb size the cylinders will not be getting fully filled,so the compression ratio you figure up for it will not be the true ratio. He can get away with better valves to help flow too. Acidporting would be an option
