Hi. gotta friend who bought a stock car and wants a 400 hp small block in it. I told him bad idea because someone'll claim his motor. But he still wants to. I told him find some vortec heads, have them done for larger valves and bigger springs. port n polish em. He has to use stamped rocker arms, cast intake, exhaust manifolds, has to have mufflers, and cast heads. I also told him to port n polish his intake manifold and exhaust manifolds, run a 10.1-11.1 cr, balance his rotating assembly, use light weight hyper pistons, gapless file fit rings, and run some hot ignition. Any cam recommendations? any other recommendations would be great. Im just gonna pass any given advise on to him and let him decide what he wants to do.

what you said plus a later model factory roller cam block and use the biggest roller cam that the modified vortec heads will allow
maybe use vortec exhaust manifolds from a vortec equipped truck
can you get a vortec head compatible cast iron intake manifold?

Hes gotta block, crank, and rods. All stock. I have a set of 87-up intake manifold adapters from a summit stage 4 intake i got and i was gonna drill the holes out to use the adapters on vortec heads. Not 100% postive it'll work but i dont see why it wouldn't. As far as the cam meachanicl flat tappet would be the best option. 160 for a lunati bracketmaster 2. 256/270 @.050.112 degree lobe sep, most power at 2500-6500rpm. I dont like the sound of using this cam though.

i dont like that cam for a street motor.you want a shorter duration to get that power at a lower rpm.

Its not a street motor. Its for stock car. He wants a chance at winning. I know this combo wont make 400 but im trying to get as close as i can for him.

Is he running dirt or asphalt? How long is the track? True oval or mainly round?

he cant hit 400hp with only 350cfm. hes not going to get any air in that beast. i like the vortec heads and that cam would suck. i would go with something around .480 .480 with a low duration.

i told him he wont get 400. im going for the most he can get now. He is young like me only single so he blows his money and dont care.lol wish i could but then again i wouldn't be where im at today. new house, baby etc. I think its rediculous they only allow 350 2 barrels but i guess its one way to limit a stock car.
