I prefer gen1 sbc myself but I build whatever a customer wants. Working on a 2002 5.7 Hemi now.

ya its hard to beat the affordability of a small block chevy.thats why even though i want a big block when this one craps, since i have good heads and other sbc stuff i might just get a nice big ci small block short-block

Its hard to beat 400+hp for $1000-$1500. Depends on what I've collected up

i agree with 383  or even 406 like mine insane fast and you can get quite a bit of torque out of em. that would be the motor i would put in it for what you have to spend you could build 500 hp 467 torque and that would be plenty to send the rice burners with their tail tucked wining away. we all have our opinions though you do what your comfortable with and just have fun.  Good Luck.

A 406 does make nice TQ for the street but if the car isnt set-up correctly he'll be the one getting smoked on the street. Most people think once the engine is built thats all they need to make a car fast. WRONG

I agree. The chassis, suspension, and brakes need to be updated/upgrades/modified to PROPERLY handle the power that the intended engine will produce.

The sad thing is these mods are performed after the engine is already in, and they almost kill themselves because the car cannot handle the increased performance.
