Here's the story i bought what was supposed to be a sbc 350, but when i looked up the block numbers it turned out to be a sbc 305. I was told i can convert my 305 small block into a 350 by changing the cylinder heads. is this true?

Rather than jump to conclusions and assume whomever sold the engine to you was intentionally trying to mislead you give him/her the benefit of the doubt and believe that they were just as uninformed as yourself. Mistaking a 305 for a 350 is a common mistake.

see if the seller will refund your money, if not you can make a cool table out of it and get a 350.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine. They told him it was a 350 so he bought it. Took it home put it on the engine stand and grabbed the snout of the crank. The crank had about a 1/4 inch of play front to back, and it was a 283.
Use that 305 as a boat anchor. Thats about all its good for performance wise. It would cost you about the same to build a 350 with more hp/tq. Also check the casting numbers before you buy!!

Just sell that 305, I know some of the guys at customclassictrucks.com and classictrucks.com would be interested in the 305.
