Help with smoke from headers

So i got my car running but within a few seconds the headers start to smoke. Im just worried the motor may overheat. I know the water pump and radiator is working properly, my main idea is the header paint. I ordered the headers from jegs and they are painted black? Someone described the smell the best, it smells like burning hair. its a weird smell, i also have a little leak where the pipe meets so idk if that might be the smell of exhaust from headers, but is it possible that the paint has to get warn in or something?

Are these headers freshly installed? If they are they are going to have oil on them from being handled by the manufacturer and the person that installed them. This happens in every application, there is no way around it. This will not cause your engine to overheat. Headers pull heat away from the engine helping it produce more power. You just have to make sure they are tight periodically. Get locking header bolts and you wont have to worry about it. I always use the ceramic coated headers. They cost more, but in the end the headers last alot longer and you dont have to worry about the paint on them burning off, as they always do.

The high temperature paint that comes on headers has to "cure" and that is what you're smelling.. Once it cures, the paint will be much harder and handle most any heat from a properly tuned engine..

Thanks for helping out guys. To bad smellovision has not been perfected. Maybe dirty could have linked his "burning hair" smell to the site. Wow that would bring in some hits.

Look up the twin turbo small block build for Frieburgers F Bomb and you can see some orange exhaust. A little different being a turbo set up but still awesome. Tom Nelson and his crew really do an AMAZING job...Super cars is an understatement!!
