i have an 04 silverado , just got a magnacharger wich will be going in soon but would also like to change cam also. i would like some sugestions on which one would be a good one. preferably somthing really choppie but without the sacrifice of performance for my application.
im also thinking of changing the heads to lower copmpression so i could add more boost. can anybody recommend some.

[bold]overall its a daily driver but will be taken to track on weekends. so its a stock 4.8 w magnacharger , k&n filter, JBA headers, flowmaster exh, 373 limited slip. i will also be putting in a t56 from 01 camaro.[/bold]

if its performance you want , i would suggest you get something like a 220/220 cam for it , its a very popular application and the 5.3's go into the 12's with them , bigger isn't always better, but 220's arent the choppiest , there is a guy named frank on this forum who sells the gm hotcam 227/230 with ls6 springs for like 150 or 250 , the reg price on it is 500$ , he might have more selection by now http://rgvtruckperformance.net/rgvtruckperformance/

more than likely you will find some fast 4.8's on there , prolly in the 11.00's and 12.00's , but expect your limited slip to die on you on a good hook.on the heads you can prolly get some alum 6.0 heads for cheap they offer lower compression and are a hit for boosted apps. last but not least all the mods will mean very little if you cannot find a good reputable tuner , in the forum i posted there are at least 3 that i would recommend ,but thats in south texas so...if u get it all done right expect high 11's to low 12's nothing higher than a mid 12.

i don't do mechanic work so i cant tell you it will be a direct fit or not. all i do know is that the gen3 engines are very interchangable.

i did although find this link witch im sure you will find very helpful.

everything you need to know about gen3 ls type heads.

detroit lockers are very popular , also eaton posi's
alot of racers wait till their stock rear ends die tho , im not sure if thats the smart thing to do.

The 6.0 heads will not work as the valves will not clear the bore of a 4.8/5.3.

That's what I thought but I hear somuch about people putting in 6.0 to lower compression and increase flow. How are they doing it, if

I suppose if you limit the valve lift or put smaller valves in it might work but this pretty much defeats the purpose. There are plenty of aftermarket heads out there for 4.8/5.3, if your budget allows. How much boost is this going to have? These are only cast pistons in these engines, maybe hyperuetectic, not 100% sure. I have a pr of heads from a 5.3 and 6.0 laying around, the combustion chamber width measures about 3.75" for the 5.3 and 4.0" for the 6.0. the bore size on the 4.8/5.3 is 3.78". You could always put in bigger valves but won't lower comp. If the boost is minimal should be ok these have about 9.6:1 comp stock. I am a GM tech for almost 14 yrs and have had plenty of these engines apart, any more ? just post them.
