I got a built 350(.30 over) pushing around 400 hp an 10:1 compression.  The engine is balanced with stock crank and rods, topped with hypereutectic pistons and is a 4 bolt main with ARP studs.  Now to the question, would that bottom end be able to handle any rootstyle supercharger safely or would I be running that fine line of (almost safe and breaking it.)  Im getting mixed answers from people so Id thought Id see what others have to say.

Other notes
I will run the engine hard time to time (I like to have fun)
I dont have a set hp/tq i want to reach

Currently on the engine
.488 lift  304 Duration Cam
2.02/1.60 double hump heads
weiand stealth intake
holley carb

Thanks

You're going to mixed answers because it is a bit risky. Any kind of detonation AT ALL will ruin hypereutectic pistons. Cast pistons, regardless of how you cast them, are much more brittle than other alloys used in high-strength forgings. Brittle not only means that the required loading to make them fail is significantly lower than a forging, but when they fail, they really fail.

It will more than likely be fine with a reasonable amount of boost, which will probably come from a mini-blower, 142/177). Roots superchargers do build more heat (are more inefficient) and can't easily be intercooled unlike some other kinds of centrifugal belt-driven superchargers.

If you do make this switch, go get a decent cam. That cam not only won't be suited to a supercharger, but it isn't suited for any engine. Cam technology has come a long way and you no longer need 300° of duration to get a half an inch of lift.
