I took my steering wheel on my 64 chevy biscayne, its a billet specialties steering wheel.  I had to put in the turn signal lever.  After that was done, I put the steering wheel back on with no problem.  While driving it I noticed I put it on a little off center.  So I took it back off and now I can't get it back on! I have no idea what to do?  I already filed the edges because they were burrowed a little bit but I still can't get it back on and I have no idea what to do.  I can't take it anywhere to have anyone look at it.  Somebody please give me some advice.  I am desperate and have no idea what to do.

but you have not said.... whats not fitting...

the steering wheel adaptor slides onto the splines....   you do have to examine... they may have a blank spline on that year... so the wheel or adaptor will only slide onto the splines in one direction...

if you  have used a hammer to loosen the steering wheel from the shaft... SHAME on you....

but the thread size is usually 9/16 -18 thread... dies that size are usually available at larger hardware stores..

a little better description of whats happening..

The splines are not lining up, I tried the same spot and they wont' line up.  I havn't used a hammer to put the steering wheel on or off.  It looks like the inside of the steering wheel groves are burrowed at the edge they meet the splines.

On the back of the steering wheel there is a plastic piece that is held on the steering wheel by 2 screws.  I took that off and the steering wheel went on perfectly.  So I have this plastic piece off the back of the steering wheel and now I am trying to line it up on the shaft coming out of the steering colum, but it is hitting a rubber seal that is right around that shaft and there looks to be no way around this.  Now I know its not the splines but now I can't figure out how to line up this plastic piece.  Any ideas?

No, I finally figured it out.  The bushing that is around the shaft coming out of the colum expanded as time went on.  Since I marked where the steering wheel came off I put it in that spot and slowly started twisting the nut on, and I kept tightening it until it was on there completely and I have had no problems with it since.  Thanks for all the help guys
