guys I have scoured the net read days worth of forums, 99% of those all talk about the reverse of what I am wanting to do ...I had a 86 suburban with a mild 350 that tended to grenade transmissions ...I decided to remove the 350 and put it up for a later project ......now we are at the new project its a 98 burban with a 350 with mystery issues it was bought at an auction as a missing motor parts truck ...most were in the back the only thing missing was the radiator but the block contains contaminated oil so maybe it had a blown head gasket or the oil cooler sprung a leak and thats why the radiator is missing .......I want to put in the 86 short block with the "R" heads off the 98 and use the fuel injection set up ... the question is will this work with the old school block and bigger cam also wanting to use the 86's accell distributor set up .........any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!

I think you might be asking for headaches with the older system unless you keep the engine stock. The computers aren't capable of adjusting to different cams etc. very well. How about a nice LS motor? I'm told the computers for these are very good and capable of adjusting to upgrades quite nicely.

I would go with the LS motor, Turn Key has a kit that takes a LS1 and lets you run it into older vehicles with ease.
