Also i have a clunking sumwhere by my transfer case when coasting and than accelerating also at the shift point....the mechanic said my u joints have no play.....any ideas? maybe need a new transfer case? annnny help in this matter would be greatly appreciated...also clunks loud when put into 4 low. 2high to 4 high no noise.. also when i got the truck the guy had a 2 inch tb spacer.....does this do much or just as well use it as a paperweight? 1997 Chev silverado 350 5.7L thnk u very much -jason

as for the battery light coming on... i have heard of problems with the electric part of the ignition switch... you might try changing that first...
it could also be causing the problems in the transmission.. as when the ignition switch goes south... it delays the power to the transmission controller... and it puts the transmission into default.. so that might be your noises when the battery light turns on....
there have also been problems with the gas pedal sensors...
do you have access to a scan tool that can read the transmission trouble codes and can monitor the live data stream from the various outputs....
so many things it could be... but start with a new ignition switch... do you have a big ring of keys hanging on the ignition key????

Same problem on my Saturn not too long ago. Turned out to be a faulty alternator. Replaced the alternator, will now over rev without the charge light coming on. The clunking is most likely a sloppy chain in the T-case. The best way to find out is to raise all tires off the ground and start checking for slop in every drive train component.

A TB spacer is a cheap and easy way to get approx 10-15hp. Id also suggest a Cold air kit as well, but you could just modify your factory air box.
