i have a 1995 chevy custom truck 2wd. a factory five speed,425hp sbc. im going to put 3:73 gearsin it ,what would be a round about top speed? thanks

Something like that is always a guess as HP at the rear wheels is what drives the vehicle. I have seen drivetrain losses as much as 30%. Autos have a higher drivetrain loss when compared to standard. That 30% loss was with a loose, 5000 stall, drag converter. My guess would be in the 140 mph range. At 6000 rpm with a 3.73 gear and a 30" tall tire you would be right at about 143 mph. Take the truck to the drag strip and see what speed it runs in the 1/4 mile. That is usually a good indicator to how much power you are actually making. There are formulas where you can figure the HP by dividing the mph by the truck weight. As and example it takes around 310 rwhp to push a 4000 lb. vehicle to 100 mph in the 1/4.
