I just put a gear drive on my 350. I never put a thrust button on it though. Could that cause issues or does it matter?

If you have a flat tappet cam, it is ground to keep the cam to the rear. A button won't hurt, but for the most part, is not needed. A roller cam is another story, and needs some device to keep the cam in place.

As far as i know, it is the factory cam.

Could not having a button cause a slight ticking sound in the motor from the cam moving back and forth?
