i have an 84 z-28 camaro. when i driving my car i have unwanted heat coming into my from the engine the compartment. i can feel it on my face and legs on driver's side underneath the steering wheel near the fuse box. also i have heat coming up from my console where my emergency brake handle goes up and down at. is that normal for the third gens to have this problem? what kind of material i can get to keep the heat in the engine bay and out the car? any solutions are greatly appreciated.

i wonder if the heater control on the dash board is set to warm or hot/?????
is it possible that there is NO VACUUM connected to the air conditioning and heater system... ??????? the temp control doors are vacuum operated so it might default to warm.. when vacuum is lost to that part of the system...
with the engine running... can you work the levers or knobs from off to heat to defrost.?? and the system responds with the fan on high to switch between the outlets???? then test the temp lever with the system set to defrost... see if it will blow cool and then warm as you command it...
all cars newer than the late 70's have positive ventilation.. where the heater fan will run at a low speed even with the system off... this prevents CO and CO2 from building up inside the car...
test the system.. some models had heater control valves to stop the coolant from circulating through the heater core... except when called for..

i have no a/c in my car. i have the compressor and condenser but have'nt installed them yet. my heater/ ac controls works from low to hight switch but heat don't blow through the vents. just through the dashboard for defrost. i have another thing as well, i can be at a light idling for a minute or two and go and i can smell hot water antifreeze atop the unwanted heat. when you say loss of VACUUM to a/c and heater system what do you mean? wheres all that located?

some cars have vacuum controls to switch the blend and defrost doors..... some are cable controlled...
i would think that if you are smelling antifreeze inside the car.. you might have a loose heater hose... an overtightened hose clamp that crushed the heater core connection... a leaking heater core... a heater core that is only starting to leak...
there is usually a drain elbow sticking out of the engine side of the firewall below the evaporator case... see if you get antifreeze out of that... if its leaking... there may be leakage there..
its late.. i will try to get more info later if i remember...
take a look under the dash board.. see if there are just 2 or 3 cables or do you see vacuum hoses and actuators also... they look like vacuum advances...

i looked under the dash its the heater core.. i have no leakage under the evaporator case. to find the cables you mentioned, are under the dash on the passenger side, driver side, or behind the console area?
