Hello,
I have a 1961 283 with the O.E.M. carb on it. It's a 2 barrel. I would like to know where I can buy a 1/2 wrench to thin enough to fit to take off the nut's.? Or a socket thin enough.

tried a quarter inch drive universal joint socket????    i agree that new tools are thicker... sometimes too thick.. but there is always an extension and a bench grinder...  there are also ball end extensions available...  so standard sockets will wobble and make life easy... i bought a set of wobble end extensions over 20 years ago... i almost never use straight end ones. except when i am putting several extensions together...

the craftsman quarter inch drive 1/2" flex socket is part number 43246 as sears or kmart.. sometimes OSH hardware stores..   if it is rusted .. be sure to soak it with wd40 first... the exhaust passage that runs under the front of the carb really has its way with the bolts and studs...

Yea, I'll try to grind down a old wrench. Can I get oem valve covers for the 283? The old ones are rusted away.
