Hello, new to this forum.  I have a 1973 Malibu thats been sitting in the garage for 10 years.  I was in an accident and thats why it was sitting there for so long.  I have the earge to fix it up now and all it needs its to be painted.  I emailed a bodyshop in town and told them that the hood and fenders need to be painted. I do not have the car insured so I can not drive it there for them to look at to give me an estimate.

All I was looking for was an estimate.  I told them it has been primed and needs to be repainted.  He told me that he would pass on the job becuase it sounded like a headache to work on.

All I need is the hood, and fenders painted. How can that be a headache. I'm not a bodyshop person, but to me that doesn't seem to difficult of a job to do.  Its a baby blue color and I just want my car painted.

He also stated that if it just has primer on it he thinks there might be rust underneath it cuz it hasn't been painted.  Is that possible?

Any ideas how to get my car painted if all the shops think its a headache to paint?

it might be a problem that the car has prior primer on it.. it might cause problems with the new paint...

and if you are asking too many questions...     you might be one of the customers they don't need... as there is not enough time in the day for most people to describe the entire process in minute detail to a potential customer... who will take the information and do it at home...

i have had several customers who when i told them something.. had to get online and see if that was accurate... by posting that to the net..  i did not have time for them either...

it is also almost impossible to match 10 year old paint...   it will be a different color... and you won't be happy...  no matter how many calls you make to talk to him about it...

if you want to get your car to the shops... use a trailer... use a flat bed tow service...  thats how everybody else does it...

i totally agree that there might be rust under the primer... primer is not really that water proof... it is there to help attach the paint to the body.. and fill tiny imperfections...

many people paint their cars at home ...  it all depends on your knowledge... and experiance...   there are lots of videos on the net on how to do it... and watch some of the car shows..    read the paint and body issues almost every car magazine does each year....

ok, so painting a car in ones own garage will provide the same results as a paint booth?  If so, I could get it done at my own garage.

Thanks for the relpy back. I thought no one would.
