I started with a 96 350 crate block #10243880 that was machined for a roller cam, I got a roller cam out of a police intercepter LT1 motor (I was told anyway) Everything worked perfect until we got to the timing gear (the cam didn't come with one) So i bought a double roller set of gears and the cam gear hits on the block. Will this cam not work, or is there a different thrust plate I can use?

LT 1 is second Gen. 96 is Vortec. does the cam step down on the front or is it flat across the end? the 96 should have a cam that steps down to a smaller size on the front. If it does not, you have a cam for an earlier motor. OR,, you have the right cam and a timing gear for an earlier motor. Been there done that, I learn most of my lessons that way.

I didn't get a chance to look at the cam before I get your reply, but I am sure you are right, because the cam is out if a 93 Caprice police car. I will be sure to take a look at it tonight! Thanks for your help!!

Where does the gear hit. If it is above the cam on one of the bosses that stick out for the oil plugs, that is normal. The factory used a singe roller chain and when you use a wider double roller chain it hits. You need to grind down the spot that hits. The roller block that I am using now and the ZZ3 I had both did it when I put a double roller chain in.

Sorry, was out of town last week, but thanks for responding! yea, it hits above the cam, so I could just go back to a single roller and it should be ok then? Or do the grinding as you suggested, either should work? And to answer zman, the cam does step down. Thanks to both of you!!

OK guys, I got the single roller gear and everything seems to fit fine. The motor should be finished up this weekend! It will still probably be a little while before it gets back in the car, since the sub fame is till out! But when I get it fired up I will let you guys know! Thanks for all your help!!
