Where I can find a higher geared rearend for it. It has a 396 big block with a 400 turbo tranny. The gearing in it is a 4:10 3/4 ton rearend. I would like to know how and where the cheapest place to find new gears or the whole rearend as cheap as possible. Thanks Zach

Salvage yard. But you might have to do brake work and things like that if your getting one from a salvage yard. Might be cheaper just to change the gears in your current rear-end.I priced installing a set of gears in my camaro and it would cost about 700 dollars, less if you do it yourself, obviously, unless you dont have the knowledge to do so. I wouldnt trust that job with a backyard mechanic

Most of 67-72 trucks came with 3:73 gears. A 3:73 rearend shouldn't be to hard to come up with. Put a "want to buy" or "want to trade" ad in the auto parts section of your local craigslist. You might be suprised. Make sure its a leaf spring rear, many of these came with coils. There are a lot of these 67-72 trucks on the road. I see several of them every day here in Nebraska. Can't even think of the last ford(ugly) or dodge of this era I've seen driving around. I myself have a couple of these chevys(ones a GMC), both 4x4s with 3:73s. Good luck!

Yea I thought about that I just need some cheaper parts. I lost my job and my truck is the only vehicle I have so I need some cheap parts. Used and good. Or new.

Is this a full floating rear end with a 14 bolt cover with a bolt on pinion housing? If so you should find parts for this easy as GM still uses this rear end today in new trucks. Am sure there are small changes over the years but the basic parts similar. Is your rear end broke? If not why fix what's not broke if money is tight. If you're trying to improve fuel mileage get on O/D trans or Gear Vendors O/D unit. I know both of these are not a cheap upgrade but think a better way to go as they will turn those 4.10 gears to like a 2.73 plus you wont loose acceleration power. I probably doubt you can get anything less than a 3.73 gear for this as it was made for pulling and hauling. Hope this helps, sorry about your job situation, *** economy!
