If you take the cover off and count the teeth on the ring and pinion gears then divide number of teeth on the ring by the number on the pinion you will get the ratio. If the carrier is a posi it will have springs in it you can see, open diffs don't

It's a 8.2.The ring gear size only changes from gear ratio to gear ratio. The ring gear size doesn't change from posi to non posi. You can check for a posi without opening the cover. By spinning the wheels/axles both will go the same direction with a posi; oppisate for non posi. If you have a posi you can detrmine the gear ratio by the number of turns of the axle in relation to the pinion yoke. Without a posi you have to go by the dividing method with the cover off. If you don't have a posi try looking in ebay for an original eaton posi, which can be had for around $200-275 compared to new aftermarket eaton about $500.
