I have a custom 383 that is driving me bonkers. The engine consists of :4 main block, with every thing done to it(bored, stroked decked, line bored, honed with a plate. The heads are aluminum Trick flowCNC ported w/2.05 & 1.60 ss valves. 1.6 roller rockers. A rpm air gap manifold. An msd #8394 pro-billit.(this a distributor has only elctronic vac. and electronic centrifical advance). The carb is a quick fuel ss 830.It has 4 corner idle screws. Only thng changed was to install a 4# power valve sinc I have only 8# at idle in gear.Spes on cam at this point is unknown; i'm trying get specs for all of the parts . It's supposed to be around 540 lift. But I don't know if thats including  1.6 rockers. NOW THE PROB.-The engine starts and runs great; If I give it 1/2 throttle, it will spin the tires, and accelerate very quickly.  If I take off from a roll at 1200 rpm the engine hesitates for a long seconed to around 2500 rpm and then it takes off like I've used nitrous and spins the tires all the way to third gear.I don't like to powerjack the tranny, and flooring it at a dead stop it flashes so fast that tire spin goes right over the bog. Tranny is 350 turbo w/shift kit, and 2400 tall. Rear has approx. 4.1  gears.    Car is a 65 Rambler wagon w/a mustang front end(power steering and front discs.

Sounds like a carb prob to me. Probobly going lean for a second at full throttle. IMO that is a big carb for a street 383. I'd try to slow down my secondary opening rate and see if that helps. I had the same problem on a 350. I changed from a double pumper to a vac secondary and it solved the problem. I was told when all four butterflys opened at once it was killing my carb signal and causing an air gulp without enough fuel and a bad bog. If I floored it in second and shifted into first during the bog it would hit like nitrous(like you said). That sounds like a nice engine! Are you running a Trick Flow cam? I've been looking at those. Good luck.
