I need to know where to find some sort of adapter so that i can run that type of newer tranny with the older nova electrical system and watnot. Its a 73nova with a 67 327 and an 80's (not sure wat exact year) 700R4/4L60E thats electronic and i dont know how i can hook that combo up exactly. I know i gotta deal with the kick down cable but wat about the speed sensor cable i cant seem to find where one would go. the electric plug is a 2x2(4)..that comes out the driver side. a friend
                                      ..
told me i can pick up a kit that elliminates the electronics but wat is it called and where can i find one. if you can help id really appreciate it.

Well if the transmission is an 80's transmission it would be a strictly 700R4 no electronic 4L60E. The 4L60E did not show till 1993. There is no kick down cable either there is just a throttle valve cable (TV Cable).  You would also need electronic speedometer gears in order to run it instead of mechanical.  And there is a company that makes gauges that also sell a cable style gauge that can hook-up to an electric style plug-in.  I cant think of there name i have only heard it once. I would suggest maybe looking at these people or calling them....  EATMYSHIFT.COM ask them about it they could prob tell you right off the top of there head.

The electronics you could be referring to could be the lockup of the torque converter. Otherwise there arent any electronics in the trans at all that i know about anyways.
The earlier 700r4s had mechanical speedometers. The T.V. cable(kick down) must be hooked up on a 700r trans. The t.v. cable controls the hydraulics of the trans and if its not connected will ruin the transmission. You will have very hard shift in each gear and it wont shift until your at about 4500 rpm.

the left side plug is for the lock up.  You can buy a kit.  It gives you a new brake pedal switch and double contacts.  I think you will need a 20 amp fuse source for it. there's also a vacuum pot that you wire in.  I did one a few months ago on a 56 nomad, easy install, I think that kit came from summit.
good luck

im running the o'L kill switch for my lock up , since i only cruise in town i don't really activate the lock up much. paid 12 bucks for a nos style switch at auto zone. installation took me a while but was very easy with zero experience in electrical , mainly took long because i wanted to make the cleanest job i could. although my mechanic was able to get the lockup to switch on using some old school technique but the lockup would kick right in when my tranny would go into fourth and it would bog hard, so i went with the kill switch style.

i should try a kit but maybe later on.

try looking into painless wiring or

i used a 200-4r used in the grand nationals , art carr claims it can handel 1000hp , vs a 700's 500-550 hp .

i should note the kill switch technique makes my engine detonate quite a bit , not sure exactly why , im not sure if i had a 383 still would still be happening i know its harder for the engine to pick up while the tranny is locked up .

its kind of a pain because when you wanna pick up speed u have to switch it off then back. ( i think this is the correct way of using the method)

can any old schoolers who have used this method shed any light?
