U-Joint Knocking The Transmission Tunnel... (Traction bars?)

Sorry if this is a dumb question...
I am helping my friend with his 55' Bel Air (4 door)
This is a half finished project that he bought from someone else.
The Engine has been swapped to a 327 w/ a 4 speed.
The vehicle has been lowered in the rear.
The problem is there is a lot more torque...
So now the drive train is slapping due to the leaf springs flexing too much. (I think)
what I'm asking is if traction bars would be the proper solution.
I'm looking to fix the problem properly not half ass.
this is what I have found so far.

any help/ links to products would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
~Jesse.

Sounds like wheel hop from your description. If that is the case, traction bars are the least expensive fix. Give it a try.

Thanks Jim!
Just wondering, is the transmission supposed to be brased or does it free float (relying on the drive train for support?
I had my buddy order traction bars.

The Tranny should be supported by the cross member and trans mount.

Ok. On the trans support, if you're using the factory '55 front of engine block motor mounts, the trans woudl be supprted on the bellhousing by the trans "ear" mounts coming off the frame by the bellhousing. If the car is using late model side mount engine mounts, then you need to have a late model crossmember style trans support under the tailshaft housing. If your car doesn't have this, you can get a crossmember kit from Classic Chevy International.
On the wheel hop issues, traction bars will help settle the springs down, but you need to also look at replacing the leaf springs, because odds are they could be worn out, so the traction bars won't help the problem that much.
Find out how old the springs are, if you don't know, then replace them, they're probably the original leaf springs the car came with.
