Hello everyone got a couple questions to run past the experts here.
My 72 SS has a "K" in the fifth position on the VIN....but it has front drums brakes and single spring leaf springs in the back. What gives? I thought all SS had power brakes with disc's in the front, drums in the rear, and multi leaf springs. Can anyone shed some light on this please. Thanks!

Sounds like you've got a fake SS there. All SS cars did have power disc brakes, and the mono leaf rear springs are the dead giveaway. Only six cylinder and base (low HP) V-8 cars had mono leaf springs.
Email me (patrick.hill@sorc.com) the data plate info from your car, I'll see if I can decode it and figure out exactly what the car originally was.

Because 1972 is the first year the original engine is coded in the VIN, you can tell a real SS by the engine code. All 1972 Novas came with the L48 350 4-bbl engine. The L48 was only available in the SS so if the 5th digit of the VIN is a K, the original engine is a L48 and it must be a real SS. By the way, all 1972 Super Sports had power front disc brakes.
The begining of your VIN number should read: 1X27K2 1 = Chevrolet X = Nova 27 = 2 door sedan K = 350 4bbl V8 2 = 1972
Digit 7 is the Assembly Plant: L = Van Nuys, CA N = Norwood, OH W = Willow Run, MI
Digits 8 thru 13 are the Production Sequence Number and starts at 100001 Also, check the cowl tag, the first line should read 7211427 72 = 1972 1 = Chevrolet 14 = Nova, V8 27 = 2 door sedan
1972 Super Sport - RPO Z26 Equipment (used in addition to or in place of standard equipment) Exterior Special hood ornaments Black painted grille with bright upper and lower horizontal bars Black painted rear end panel trim plate "SS" emblem on grille and rear end panel
Interior Black steering wheel, shroud and column with "SS" emblem on shroud
Chassis White stripe E70-14-B tires on 14x7 rim F40 Heavy duty suspension (F41 Sport suspension optional) Front disc brakes with power assist

Good luck ..
