Headers on a 68 Nova

I have a 68 nova I recently acquired. It was a 6 cylinder car from the factory and I put a v8 in it, I'm having trouble with the shorty headers that are on the motor interferring with the automatic transmission shifter arms. Are the shifter arms different from a 6 cylinder to a v8 or do I just need to get long tube headers?
