I recently inherited a 54 and would like to restore it but really don't know where to begin. I would like to keep the original 6 cylinder change the 3 speed colume shift to a 4 speed on the floor and put a more modern rear end in the car. Has anyone done this or something similar I take any advice I can get. Thanks Roy

I have put a Muncie in place of a three speed column in the past. No problems, just cut a hole.

Take a tip from a old gear cruncher. IF you keep the 3-speed, braze the syncro rings in. Most of the problems we had with this tranny was blowing out the rings on the 1-2 shift!
